May 30, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The number of children in Belarus has dropped by 26 percent over the past 25 years to 1,764,309 on January 1, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of the National Statistics Committee’s (Bie\u0142stat) data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Viciebsk region posted the largest decline of almost 40 percent, with the number of children plunging from 313,095 to 188,613, while the city of Minsk reported a drop of 6 percent, from 383,883 to 361,016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The population of Belarus has shrunk by about 9 percent over the past 25 years to 9,109,280 in early 2025. The share of children has fallen from 23.9 to 19.4 percent in this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of orphans and children without parental care grew by 25 percent in 2024 to 2,752. The trend was consistent across Belarus, with the sharpest rise, of 71 percent, recorded in the Minsk region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
