May 31, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> National Bank head Raman Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka has claimed that citizens’ confidence in the Belarusian rubel is growing and linked this to a strategy of the government and the central bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe National Bank performs only targeted interventions, which we use to smooth out some extreme fluctuations. This tool is used very rarely,” Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka told ONT <\/em>today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This is largely due to the overall stability of our national currency and the serious strengthening of confidence in our currency on the part of companies, organizations and citizens,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka, in 2020, the government and the central bank adopted “a strategy to boost confidence in the rubel, which includes a whole range of specific measures.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Its ultimate goal is the fundamental reduction of foreign currency’s role [Rus.: devalyutizatsiya] in economic relations in our country,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the rubel plunged 9.32 percent against the greenback, 1.57 percent against the EU currency and 9.2 percent against the Chinese currency. However, it gained 4.3 percent against the Russian ruble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
