June 2, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The Belarusian National Olympic Committee (NOC) receives funding from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Viktar \u0141uka\u0161enka, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s son in charge of the NOC, has told noc.by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed gratitude for \u201cfinancial support through the Olympic Solidarity\u201d without specifying the exact amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relations between the NOC and the IOC have \u201csignificantly improved over the past year\u201d with \u201cgradual positive changes” such as admissions of Belarusian athletes to championships and World Cups, he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official cited the International Judo Federation\u2019s recent decision to allow Belarusian athletes to compete under their national flag as an example. Bans have been lifted for the fencing, synchronized diving and artistic swimming teams, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian athletes compete as neutrals in wrestling, taekwondo, swimming, modern pentathlon, weightlifting and table tennis without any additional conditions and criteria, the NOC head stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian officials note friendlier tones in communications after the Paris 2024 Olympics, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot everything is as swift, smooth and easy as we would like it to be, but there is an understanding and desire to move in a constructive direction,\u201d Viktar \u0141uka\u0161enka said, criticizing some international sports federations, such as World Athletics, for recalcitrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other difficulties persist and are linked to the national bans for Belarusian athletes and problems of obtaining visas, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the war in Ukraine began in February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) urged sports federations to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from all competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It later recommended that some of them could be allowed as neutral athletes under certain conditions, such as not supporting the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December 2023, the IOC allowed neutrals to compete in the 2024 Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
