August 4, BPN<\/em>.<\/strong> The new package of European Union’s sanctions will “weaken [Alaksandar] \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime and its ability to assist [Vladimir] Putin’s criminal war against Ukraine,” said Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It also sends a strong message: there will be no impunity, ” she tweeted. “Although sanctions are not a silver bullet, they are necessary to halt lawlessness.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 3, the EU sanctioned 38 people and three companies from Belarus: the Minsk Electrotechnical Plant, Belarusian Steel Works and oil and petrochemical giant Bie\u0142naftachim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EU linked new restrictions to “the situation in Belarus and the involvement of Belarus in the Russian aggression against Ukraine.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sanctions include an extended export ban on dual-use goods and technologies as well as a prohibition of sale, supply, transfer or export of firearms and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
