June 3, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The European Union countries have not allowed at least 454 third-country foreigners to cross irregularly from Belarus since the start of June, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania thwarted 18 attempts, Latvia, 133 and Poland, at least 303. A total of attempts on June 1 and 2 exceeded the January level when 431 irregular crossings were reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of 2025, the EU foiled more than 15,700 irregular crossings from Belarus, including 10,534 into Poland; 4,371 into Latvia and 818 into Lithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to get to the EU surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, the EU thwarted at least 36,291 irregular border crossings at its shared border with Belarus after foiling 42,078 attempts in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
