{"id":142266,"date":"2025-06-11T14:34:24","date_gmt":"2025-06-11T11:34:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/142266\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"foreign-medical-student-numbers-surge-in-belarus-since-2020","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/142266\/","title":{"rendered":"Foreign medical student numbers surge in Belarus since 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>June 11, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Some 20,000 students are enrolled at four Belarusian medical schools in Viciebsk, Minsk, Homiel and Hrodna, including 5,000 foreigners from 63 countries, Volha Kalupanava of the health ministry has told journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of foreign students rose by 3,000 or 67 percent over the past five years, she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twenty students from Equatorial Guinea will be admitted to medical schools in the 2025-26 academic year benefiting from a scholarship program approved by Alaksandar Luka\u0161enka, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>About 12,000 future nurses, including 200 foreigners and a group of Zimbabweans, are trained at specialized schools, Kalupanava added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Western sanctions have not affected the appeal of medical studies in Belarus, which stand out for high quality and are 90 percent practice-oriented by contrast to Russia and other countries, she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past three years, up to 150 foreign graduates\u2014mostly nationals of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan\u2014have enrolled in internship programs at Belarusian hospitals, she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This fall, about 2,400 interns, 4,000 nurses and about 2,000 trained doctors are expected to start providing healthcare services in Belarus, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More like this: <a href=\"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/ru\/news\/130436\/\">Health minister says $700 is a decent salary for doctors<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 11, Pozirk.
