June 12, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka has issued an edict to oblige retailers and suppliers to ensure the availability of vegetables at stores in the off-season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move comes after a spike in vegetable prices, driven by shortages in spring. In late May, the Belarusian government lifted a ban on the import of potatoes, onions, white cabbages and apples from \u201cunfriendly countries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The edict makes retailers eligible for loans on preferential terms to cover advance payments for 30 percent of fruit and vegetable products procured under state contracts. Loans will be available in Belarusian rubels at an annual interest rate of 3 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suppliers are required to ensure the provision of fruit and vegetable products to retailers, the document stressed, warning of administrative liability for failure to meet these obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
