June 13, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> New cases of politically-motivated persecution documented in Belarus on June 11 and 12 included several guilty verdicts in criminal cases against regime critics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A judge from \u015avietlahorsk, Homiel region, added another year to activist Viktoryja Kul\u0161a\u2019s prison term for alleged disobedience to prison authorities, the Viasna Human Rights Center said. This was her fourth trial on similar charges that authorities routinely use to keep their opponents behind bars longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U\u0142adzimir Stry\u017ey\u010d, a former policeman based in the Brest region\u2019s Hancavi\u010dy, was convicted on extremism-related charges, Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lubo\u016d Drahiel in Minsk was given three years in prison; Alaksandar Jakusko\u016d, two years and Ja\u016dhienija Bojka, five years, Dissidentby reported. They all were arrested during a police raid targeting families of designated political prisoners last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 20 people are expected to go on trial in the Bie\u0142aruski Hajun case, Viasna said. They all face charges of facilitating extremism for sharing information on movements of the Russian military and equipment in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information ministry announced extremist content designations for nadzeya_grodno<\/em> on Instagram and \u017dyvie Bie\u0142aru\u015b<\/em> on TikTok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus-based users have no access to the TikTok accounts of opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja and her associate Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, Na\u0161a Niva<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veteran opposition activist Nina Bahinskaja, released without punishment in late May, appealed the sentence, demanding that the authorities return badges and flags seized from her in violation of procedures, Belsat<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Law enforcers searched the apartment of Ihar Barysa\u016d, leader of the outlawed Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada), the party\u2019s press office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities released Alaksandar Tarasienka and Maksim Palita\u016d, convicted on charges widely seen as politically motivated, Viasna\u2019s Homiel branch said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of June 13, human rights defenders identified at least 1,184 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
