June 15, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d and the Afghan government\u2019s special representative discussed expanding trade and economic cooperation during yesterday\u2019s meeting at the Termez International Trade Center in Uzbekistan\u2019s Surxondaryo region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting occurred on the second day of the minister\u2019s visit to Uzbekistan. Interestingly, the Belarusian foreign office that reported on the talks did not name the Afghan official.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the foreign office, Ry\u017eanko\u016d also talked about cooperation with Uzbekistan and Afghanistan during his meeting with Ulug\u2018bek Qosimov, the governor of the Surxondaryo region. They considered a wide range of Belarusian exports, from food to machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The officials discussed prospects for launching assembly plants to supply goods to neighboring markets. \u201cIntroducing the minister to the capabilities of the Termez International Trade Center was an important element of the program,\u201d the foreign office said. There, the diplomat examined the free zone\u2019s potential as a launchpad for Belarusian exports around the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2025, the Afghan foreign ministry reported a meeting between its deputy head Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai and his Belarusian counterpart Siarhiej \u0141uka\u0161evi\u010d. Stanikzai called the visit a milestone in the bilateral relationship and a good start to long-term cooperation. \u0141uka\u0161evi\u010d underscored his government\u2019s \u201cpositive intention\u201d to lay the foundations for partnership in various sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Afghanistan is ruled by Taliban, a political and militant movement whose government is not internationally recognized. The Belarusian Committee for State Security (KGB) has even included Stanikzai in its \u201cterrorist list.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
