June 20,\u00a0Pozirk.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>The interior ministry has added 27 new names to the list of \u201cpersons involved in extremist activities,\u201d taking the total of entries to 5,434, its website says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list includes 17 people convicted on violent disorder charges used to persecute participants in the 2020 postelection protests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are Hanna Vinni\u010denka, Vital Struj, Arciom Ka\u015bjaniak, Siarhiej Rudak, \u015aciapan Rahacien, Pavie\u0142 \u0141a\u016drynovi\u010d, D\u017amitryj Jakimovi\u010d, Ivan Jara\u0161evi\u010d, Andrej Ahiannika\u016d, Siarhiej Sa\u0142aducha, Mikita Panin, Stanis\u0142a\u016d Michal\u010duk, Natalla Nia\u010dajeva, Mika\u0142aj Karacienka, Julija Karobko, Ihnat Bahuk and Alaksandra A\u0161urka. They may be serving non-custodial sentences as their criminal records have not been expunged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new additions also feature Juryj Hadun, Andrej Je\u015bman and Barys Chitryk convicted to prison terms on similar charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrej Kozyr, Alaksandar Mazuryn, Ivan Kavalenka, Dzianis Paitro\u016d, Albert \u0160y\u0142a, Ihar Niemirovi\u010d and Vasil Are\u0161ka were convicted on charges ranging from insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka to financing and facilitating extremism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niemirovi\u010d and Are\u0161ka were arrested after their return to Belarus from abroad. Rights groups consider them\u00a0political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People placed on the list of individuals involved in extremist activities are banned from any education- and publishing-related activity, as well as from holding state positions and from doing military service, for five years after completing their sentences or after the related conviction is deleted from the criminal record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their financial transactions are subject to close monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the crackdown on the 2020 postelection protests, authorities in Belarus equated criticism, solidarity, advocacy, the free media and free expression to extremism and terrorism.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
