June 21, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Juryj Ambrazievi\u010d, Belarusian ambassador to the Vatican, has presented his credentials to Pope Leo XIV, the foreign ministry\u2019s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomat and the pontiff discussed regional politics and bilateral cooperation, including humanitarian initiatives and projects in education and culture, it noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk plans to open the embassy in the Vatican before September. Ambrazievi\u010d was appointed ambassador to the Holy See in late March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 8, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka congratulated Leo XIV on his election as pope and invited him to Belarus, which is most likely a part of Minsk\u2019s ongoing effort to boost ties with the Vatican.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, it would be challenging for the pontiff to accept the invitation, since Patriarch Kirill of Moscow is unlikely to welcome the visit \u2013 Belarus is a country dominated by the Russian Orthodox Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
