June 23, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The National Bank of Belarus (NBB) has not intervened in the exchange market to weaken the US dollar, its head Raman Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka told the state-run Belarus 1<\/em> television channel in an interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He made the statement while commenting on the 14-percent strengthening of the Belarusian rubel against the dollar in the last 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dollar depreciation can make US goods more competitive internationally, he suggested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka also cited the US \u201cenormous foreign debt\u201d of $37 trillion as well as trade wars, protectionism, imposition of tariffs, unilateral sanctions and other restrictions, \u201cundermining confidence in what was once the world\u2019s most reliable reserve currency.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weakening of the dollar has led to a significant decline in demand for the currency in Belarus, the official added, citing a drop to 16-percent in the proportion of the dollar in the overall trade at the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange in 2025. The Chinese yuan accounted for 22 percent, while the Russian ruble made up more than half, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian currency strengthened by 13.72 percent against the dollar in the first five months of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
