June 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Lithuanian MPs have approved a legal framework for national economic sanctions against Belarus and Russia,\u00a0with 93 votes in favor and two abstentions, Delfi\u00a0<\/em>reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The amendments tabled by the foreign office let the government make lists of people and companies subject to sanctions, freeze their assets and impose sectoral restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restrictions aim to ban the import of technologies, services, and software from Belarus and Russia as well as the provision of services related to the supply or production of these goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move is seen as a safeguard should the European Union not prolong its own sanctions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas urged countries in the region neighboring Belarus and Russia to introduce joint restrictions, citing these concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
