June 29, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarus counted 3.98 million head of bovine animals in late May, 2.3 percent fewer than a year earlier, according to the National Statistical Committee (Bie\u0142stat).\u00a0A decline is reported in all regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, the population of cows shrunk by 1.2 percent (note that the population of pigs contracted by a stunning 15.6 percent y\/y).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 17, amid cattle reduction, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka told a conference in the Minsk district that the authorities had found a way to improve livestock farming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No more than a third of farms need to be tackled, while the rest are functioning \u201cgenerally well\u201d or even \u201cat a high level,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 29, \u0141uka\u0161enka told the first meeting of his new government that livestock mortality reached a historic high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, in September 2023, \u0141uka\u0161enka told a seminar on livestock farming in the Minsk region’s Salihorsk that the mortality rose in 53 districts. He said the rate increased almost threefold in the Viciebsk region’s \u010ca\u0161niki district and fourfold in the Mahilo\u016d region’s Krasnapolle district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some farms keep livestock in unsanitary conditions, do not remove manure in a timely manner and do not comply with feeding and temperature standards, \u0141uka\u0161enka said.\u00a0He told officials that it was his \u201clast warning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pozirk <\/em>estimates that the population of bovine animals has been in decline since early 2019, when the country had 4.34 million head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
