{"id":144701,"date":"2025-06-30T19:03:57","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T16:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/144701\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"upper-house-passes-bill-to-ban-extremists-from-education","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/144701\/","title":{"rendered":"Upper house passes bill to ban \u201cextremists\u201d from education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>June 30, <em>Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>The Council of the Republic has approved Children\u2019s Rights Law amendments to ban people convicted of extremism-related crimes from education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same ban would apply to people who have a record of conviction of illegal drug trafficking, the upper house said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The amendments passed the House of Representatives on June 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The legislation also calls for \u201cprotecting children from information harmful to their health and development.\u201d It would oblige parents to protect their kids from such information on the Internet. Government agencies would educate and consult parents or guardians on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Human rights groups accuse Belarusian authorities of abusing anti-extremism legislation to persecute government critics.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government regularly adds new names to its register of people convicted of extremism-related offenses for politically-sensitive online comments, taking part in peaceful protests or donating to opposition causes.
