The Belarusian was released on May 29 after serving his sentence He was arrested in February 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>PAP<\/em> reported that the man had lived in Poland for over a decade. He was born in Lviv, Ukraine, and spoke fluent Polish. In recent times, he was engaged in shuttle trade, importing goods from Belarus, but the prosecutor said that his trade was a disguise for espionage. Belarusian agents might have recruited him because of his expertise, as he was a specialist in railway transport and logistics, the prosecutor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second defendant, a 59-year-old Pole who rented an apartment to Mika\u0142aj was fined 7,000 zlotys (about $1,900) for failing to report the crime. During the investigation, both men confessed to the charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, <em>Pozirk <\/em>reported that Mika\u0142aj M. is likely Mika\u0142aj Maskalenka. Shortly after he and two other Belarusians, U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Pa\u015bmiciucha and Maryja Miad\u017aviedzieva, were arrested in Poland, a Belarusian Telegram channel released propaganda videos.
