July 5, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Since Russia started a full-scale attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022, there\u2019s been no doubt that aggressors have used a migration crisis at the border with Belarus to test Poland\u2019s ability to mobilize and defended itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish President Andrzej Duda said so visiting the Polish-Belarusian border yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Duda, whose term ends on August 6, the government was disoriented and did not immediately recognize \u201chybrid aggression\u201d when crowds of migrants started crossing from Belarus into Poland in the Summer of 2021, bypassing checkpoints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnly after some time did we realize that it is no coincidence. It is really happening under the inspiration and auspices of the Belarusian regime, not just with its tacit consent. We even identify Belarusian officers pushing groups of migrants to the border zone so they can cross illegally the border of the European Union and the Schengen area, not just the Polish border,\u201d the president stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He thanked Polish officers for their service and expressed regret for the casualties, such as Sgt. Mateusz Sitek. Duda said that Sitek was \u201cthe first soldier to die in defense of the border of the Republic of Poland since World War II.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
