July 8,<\/strong> Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Lithuanian Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovi\u010d has reaffirmed Lithuania’s support of Belarusians at his meeting with Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kondratovi\u010d expressed concern about border security, citing 1.5 million annual crossings of the shared border with Belarus, while Cichano\u016dskaja suggested setting up a working group to facilitate legalization of Belarusians in Lithuania and the issue of residence permits, her press office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lithuanian official stressed that so far, each case is considered individually, and decisions can be appealed through the courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The politicians talked in Belarusian, which, according to Cichano\u016dskaja, \u201cunderlined the friendly attitude of the Lithuanian politician to the Belarusian people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuania\u2019s migration department\u2019s head Evelina Gudzinskait\u0117 and Asta Andrijauskien\u0117 of the Lithuanian foreign ministry also attended the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 52,287 Belarusian nationals held Lithuanian residence permits as of July 1, according to the official data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
