July 11, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Valancin Rybako\u016d, Belarus\u2019 permanent representative to the United Nations, has met with UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres to discuss Minsk\u2019s effort toward a peaceful settlement for Ukraine, the foreign office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two diplomats also talked about regional security and Belarusian-UN cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kazakhstan in July 2024, Guterres expressed concern about Belarus\u2019 human rights situation to Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka. He wished that pardons for selected political prisoners would lead to complete respect for human rights in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October 2024, Guterres attended a BRICS summit in Russia, drawing criticism from Western leaders. The secretary-general held many meetings on the sidelines, including with \u0141uka\u0161enka, who criticized the United Nations the same day in an interview with Russia\u2019s Izvestiya<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
