July 13, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Lithuanian customs officers intercepted 90,000 packs of smuggled Belarusian cigarettes transported by a freight train on June 26, Delfi<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The train was carrying 520 tons of gravel in eight cars, six of which contained hidden boxes of cigarettes worth about \u20ac403,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just two days ago, a balloon carrying 1,500 packs of smuggled cigarettes landed in Kaunas, a Lithuanian city some 100 kilometers from the Lithuanian-Belarusian border.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, Lithuania reported 330 cases of smuggling with the use of weather balloons, which may be linked to increased border security on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weather balloons gain an altitude of 2\u20135 km and can reportedly carry about 1,000 cigarette packs each. Such objects cannot be detected crossing the border and Lithuanian border guards have no means of stopping them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
