July 16, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The German government refused to disclose the identities of Belarusian persecution victims at a request from the far-right AfD faction, citing confidentiality, Andrej Stry\u017eak, head of the BySol Solidarity Foundation, said on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The personal data of those who applied to BySol for assistance is well protected, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stry\u017eak’s comments are linked to the inquiry by AfD Bundestag members made in late April on the activities of Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja and support to Belarusian political prisoners. Among other things, the AfD was interested in the German Remembrance, Responsibility and Future (EVZ) Foundation’s ties to BySol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stry\u017eak warned of potential data leaks as the German government reportedly granted MPs access to information on support for former Belarusian political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While BySol has not cooperated with Berlin in similar projects, other organizations may be exposed to risks, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The AfD seems to be serving as a tool of influence for Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s officials, as its inquiries contain narratives similar to those promoted by Minsk, Stry\u017eak said. These include portraying \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s opponents as Nazis along with resentment linked to western sanctions and exclusion from the EVZ board, the activist noted, stressing that such activities could only be \u201ca joint effort\u201d to discredit BySol and the entire aid system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a reply dated June 17, the German government confirmed that EVZ was allocated \u20ac95,000 for a joint project with BySol implemented from August 2024 to June 2025. The project reportedly involved organizations based in Poland, Germany, the Baltic states and the Caucasus. It is understood from Stry\u017eak\u2019s comments that the government has not disclosed the identities of Belarusian aid recipients because the latter may face persecution in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
