{"id":147031,"date":"2025-07-16T14:02:50","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T11:02:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/147031\/"},"modified":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-09T20:10:49","slug":"georgia-arrests-belarusian-asylum-seeker-for-three-months","status":"publish","type":"articles","link":"https:\/\/pozirk.online\/en\/news\/147031\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgia arrests Belarusian asylum seeker for three months"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>July 16, <em>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> A judge in Tbilisi ruled to place a Belarusian asylum seeker into custody for three months at a trial held yesterday, exiled rights activist Raman Ki\u015blak has told <em>Pozirk<\/em>, citing the defendant\u2019s girlfriend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rights activists were not allowed to hand over necessary documents for his defense, including a report by the UN Committee against Torture translated into Georgian and the latest report by the UN special rapporteur on Belarus, detailing ongoing reprisals in the country, Ki\u015blak said, noting that he plans to inform the Georgian Prosecutor General&#8217;s Office of these issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The man was arrested two days ago outside the Department of Migration of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, just as he was about to file his application for asylum in Georgia. His name is not disclosed for fear of persecution in case of extradition to Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The arrested Belarusian reportedly failed to briefly leave Georgia to reset his authorized stay of 365 consecutive days.
