July 17, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has allowed Belarusian athletes to compete in its group and team contests, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe decision presents opportunities for many disciplines. For example, in trampolining, Belarusians will be able to claim medals in the next synchro and mixed synchro events. This is especially important in the run-up to the World Championships in Pamplona, Spain, in early November,\u201d the NOC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarusian athletes will also be able to enter group contests in rhythmic gymnastics, the NOC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe FIG decision returns our aerobic and acrobatic teams to the world orbit,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 11, the FIG announced a change in the admission criteria for Belarusian and Russian athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It set voluntary affiliation with state agencies and active support of the regime as a filter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also introduced a \u201ctransitional mechanism\u201d for the resubmission of previously rejected applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the federation, the move will enhance the fairness and transparency of the procedure, and improve the rules of assessing the neutrality of Belarusian and Russian athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
