July 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> New cases of politically-motivated persecution were documented in Belarus on July 18 as a Telegram channel linked to law enforcement agencies posted pictures of a protest rally five years ago in Hrodna, asking followers to help identify the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the same channel shared similar pictures from the Minsk and Brest regions, threatening to persecute people displayed in them for rioting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate development, the interior ministry announced 32 new additions to the list of \u201cpersons involved in extremist activities\u201d yesterday. Most of them faced violent disorder charges that authorities use to persecute their political opponents. One of the blacklisted individuals is Estonian national Allan Roio, released on June 21 after a meeting in Minsk between Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and US diplomat Keith Kellogg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Committee for State Security (KGB) added 11 more Belarusians to the list of \u201cpersons involved in terrorist activities,\u201d blacklisting the exiled opposition transition cabinet as an \u201cextremist\u201d group, its Telegram channel said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk City Court will hear the appeal by veteran opposition activist Nina Bahinskaja on July 29, Belsat<\/em> reported. Earlier this year, she was released without punishment after authorities tried her for repeated violations of the order of holding mass events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 27 people are being held in custody in the Bie\u0142aruski Hajun case, the Viasna Human Rights Centre said, noting that six trials are under way. Defendants are being persecuted for sharing information with the now-defunct online project that monitored Russian military activities in Belarus from 2022 to early 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BySol Solidarity Foundation helped Natalla Hovarava flee Belarus, its head Andrej Stry\u017eak said. A mother of three had been convicted of of insulting Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka and officials. She was fined and given four years of restricted freedom in an open-type correctional facility. Hovarava and her children are now in Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 19, human rights defenders identified at least 1,143 political prisoners but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
