July 19, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>Members of the Islamic Consultative Assembly\u2019s working group on cooperation with the Belarusian National Assembly plan to visit Belarus from July 20 to 24, the Belarusian lower house\u2019s press office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ali Asghar Bagherzadeh, who travelled to Belarus earlier this year to observe the contested presidential election, will head the delegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 21, working groups of MPs responsible for bilateral interparliamentary cooperation are expected to hold a joint meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit of the Iranian parliamentary delegation comes as Belarus seeks to resume relations with the United States and amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus is under US sanctions, but Minsk has allegedly been involved in non-public contacts with Washington for a year. These resulted in the recent visit by Keith Kellogg, Trump\u2019s special envoy for Ukraine, to Minsk and the subsequent release of 14 prisoners, including prominent opposition figure Siarhiej Cichano\u016dski.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was the first public visit by a high-ranking US official in five years after \u0141uka\u0161enka declared himself the winner of the disputed 2020 election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
