July 22, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The BySol Solidarity Foundation reported on social media that Mikita \u0141osik, the brother of jailed journalist Ihar \u0141osik, has been evacuated from Belarus before he was taken to a correctional facility to serve his sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foundation has announced a 60-day fundraiser for Mikita, with a target of \u20ac3,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe raised funds will be spent on medical and psychological assistance, basic household items and rent for now,\u201d the press release said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 8, the Viciebsk Regional Court sentenced 25-year-old Mikita \u0141osik to three years of restricted freedom in an open-type correctional facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was found guilty of facilitating extremism for sharing several pictures with the now-defunct Bie\u0142aruski Hajun, a group that monitored movements of Russian forces and equipment in Belarus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141osik was released in the courtroom to wait for his sentence to come into effect. His arrest was reported on May 9. He was soon declared a political prisoner by human rights groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
