July 23, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Ignazio Ceffalia has presented copies of his Letters of Credentials to Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ry\u017eanko\u016d, the foreign office in Minsk reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said the talks concerned \u201cthe current situation of the Roman Catholic Church in the Republic of Belarus, the state of our bilateral relations, the prospects for intensifying our dialogue with the Vatican, including in light of this year\u2019s opening of the Belarusian Embassy to the Holy See.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diplomats \u201cconfirmed the similarity of Belarus\u2019 and the Vatican\u2019s approaches to achieving peace in Europe, preserving traditional values, and strengthening interfaith dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the 2020 presidential election, relations between Minsk and the Catholic Church deteriorated as some priests and believers openly denounced the wave of violence and reprisals that followed the mass protests against voter fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Chry\u015bcijanskaja Vizija initiative, at least 38 clergymen faced repression in one form or another as of June 25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
