August 16, BPN<\/em>.<\/strong> Viktorija \u010cmilyt\u0117-Nielsen, leader of the Lithuanian Seimas, has warned against isolating Belarusians amid reports that neighbors consider possible closure of the European Union\u2019s border with Belarus in connection with the presence of Wagner Group mercenaries there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Border sealing would isolate Belarusians fleeing from Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka’s regime, Delfi<\/a> has quoted her as saying. “I think it would be a great victory for \u0141uka\u0161enka, as well as for [Vladimir] Putin if the neighbors gave in to this,” she stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A European, democratic Belarus without \u0141uka\u0161enka continues to be one of Lithuania’s priorities, she said, noting that her country should keep up its efforts to achieve this goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 58,347 Belarusian nationals resided in Lithuania in early July, according to the official statistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
