The change is proposed in a bill submitted to the Sejm by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill\u2019s proponents justify it by citing heavy workloads on the authorities processing such requests, primarily due to a sharp increase in applications from Ukrainians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the current regulations, authorities have six months to consider asylum requests. The period may be extended to 15 months if there is a large influx of applications or if cases require additional verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the bill is adopted as it stands, these time limits will be abolished. Notably, the Office for Foreigners will no longer be required to inform applicants about the timeframe, nor will it be held liable for missing deadlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill suggests that the new regulations be in effect until March 4, 2026, though this period may be extended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this month, the Office for Foreigners reported receiving approximately 1,600 new applications for asylum from Belarusians in the first half of the year, compared with about 5,000 from Ukrainians and 400 from Russians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data published by the office at the beginning of 2025, the number of Belarusians granted asylum in Poland decreased by 10.4 percent in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 2,600 Belarusians were granted asylum in Poland last year and 2,900 in 2023. Besides, Belarusians submitted 3,900 applications in 2024 compared with 3,700 in 2023.
