July 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> During an inspection of three trucks traveling from Russia to Poland via Latvia and Lithuania, Masovian National Revenue Administration (MNRA) officers discovered Belarusian cigarettes without excise stamps at the bottom of cardboard boxes containing onions and beets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Polish tax officials, the inspection took place on July 14\u201316 at the customs office in the town of Gr\u00f3jec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drivers, Belarusian and Lithuanian nationals, were questioned as witnesses. The motorists stated that they did not know about transporting contraband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five million cigarettes were confiscated. Had the goods entered the market, the Polish state budget would have lost nearly 7.5 million zlotys, or about $2 million at the current exchange rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MNRA is conducting an investigation under the supervision of the Gr\u00f3jec prosecutors\u2019 office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this summer, Polish authorities reported stopping shipments of Belarusian tobacco contraband at the Polish-Lithuanian border, in the Nidzica district in the northeast and in Suwa\u0142ki. Their combined value exceeded $2 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
