July 25, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Sweden is deporting a Belarusian woman and her family because they applied for children\u2019s residence permits beyond the deadline, Sveriges Radio<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It only gave the woman\u2019s first name, Mira, and said she lives in Sundsvall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The parents were issued their residence permits under a program allowing immigrants to stay if they have a job. According to the couple, they were mistakenly informed that applications for their children were not required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The report describes Belarus as a country with arbitrary arrests. However, the Swedish Migration Agency concludes in its assessments that the country does not pose a risk to all citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 16, Belarusian opposition leader \u015aviat\u0142ana Cichano\u016dskaja urged lawmakers in Stockholm to expand support for Belarusians living in Sweden. \u201cWe still face many problems with documents. Your help will be crucial, for if we solve the problem here, this would have great importance for other countries,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legalization of Belarusians was also discussed at the June 17 meeting between Cichano\u016dskaja, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and his EU minister Jessica Rosencrantz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 13, the Belarusian opposition embassy in Sweden reported the first known case of the Nordic country issuing an alien\u2019s passport to a Belarusian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
