July 26, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> As of July 25, at least 110 Belarusian political prisoners had been transferred from penal colonies to prisons, and 68 more had been convicted of malicious disobedience to their wardens, Viasna reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the human rights center, only two political prisoners faced this charge in Belarus before the 2020 unrest: \u0179micier Da\u0161kievi\u010d in 2012 and Miko\u0142a Dziadok in 2015. Both are in prison again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, several dozen people have been convicted on this charge, some of them repeatedly. Viasna revealed the names of the political prisoners convicted of malicious disobedience. Nine of them have been convicted twice, five thrice and one, Viktoryja Kul\u0161a, four times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The center said wardens also used other types of punishments against political prisoners, such as locking them in punishment cells or the colonies\u2019 internal jails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn practice, the political prisoner\u2019s term of punishment depends not only on the court sentence but also on the desire of the interior ministry officers to worsen his conditions as much as possible, including by extending the sentence,\u201d Viasna lawyer Pavie\u0142 Sapie\u0142ka commented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 26, 1,164 people were serving politically motivated sentences, Viasna reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
