July 28, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Lithuania\u2019s Customs Department reports that 41 percent of all intercepted smuggled cigarettes came from Belarus in the first half of 2025 were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proportion declined from 49 percent in the same period in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA significant portion of cigarettes from Belarus are imported in passenger cars, which are checked randomly based on the risk profile,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The department also suspects that \u201ctrucks are transporting both \u2018original\u2019 and counterfeit Belarusian cigarettes produced at underground factories in Latvia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the existing control measures, smugglers are looking for new ways to deliver illegal tobacco products to Lithuania. One of these routes is the border with Latvia, from where both the Belarusian contraband cigarettes and cigarettes produced at the underground factories are imported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
