July 28, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> Belarus continues to arrest people suspected of sharing information with the now-defunct Bie\u0142aruski Hajun defense monitoring project, Viasna reported. According to the human rights center, at least 33 people were taken into custody and at least six stood trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officers arrested D\u017amitry Caruk, CEO of the Fajno design company. After keeping him in a holding cell for three days, they transferred him to a jail in Brest, Mediazona <\/em>reported. According to unconfirmed reports, Caruk was charged with facilitating extremism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ihar Sidarovi\u010d, a disabled political prisoner from Ma\u0142adzie\u010dna, was sentenced to four years on an extremism charge, Viasna reported. He was also fined 42,000 rubels ($12,800). Earlier, Sidarovi\u010d had been convicted of violent disorder and insulting a state servant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Viasna Homiel reported that Safija Ba\u010durynskaja, who had been found guilty of insulting and libeling the head of state and joining an \u201cextremist\u201d group, was sentenced to two years\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also reported that Anatol \u0179mitrovi\u010d, a businessman from \u015aviet\u0142ahorsk, was sentenced to 10 months for libeling the head of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Maryna Pietra\u017eyckaja, a retired teacher from Minsk, was sentenced to two years for joining an \u201cextremist\u201d group, Belarus Women Foundation reported. She was arrested during mass raids in October 2024.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Committee for State Security (KGB) branded Akademia Bia\u0142oruska, a Bia\u0142ystok branch of the Higher School of Management Personnel in Konin, Poland, as an extremist group. The KGB listed \u015aviat\u0142ana Silvierstava, a Belarusian academic fired from the Janka Kupa\u0142a Hrodna State University in 2014, as a person involved in its activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jewelry brand Belaruskicry said on social media that authorities declared it an extremist group. \u201cBelaruskicry was declared an extremist formation in Belarus. What it means: subscription may be considered membership in an extremist group; reposts and screenshots are a basis for criminal charges; our content on your mobile phone\u2014a detention risk. Take care!\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The information ministry listed the Telegram channel Gorki Dlya Zhizni, the Telegram chat Belitsa Chat 97 Percent and the Media-Pale\u015bsie pages on Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki as extremist content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia launched a criminal investigation into a cyberattack on the Aeroflot airline. A group called Silent Crow and Belarus\u2019 Cyberpartisans claimed responsibility for the large-scale operation to compromise and destroy Aeroflot\u2019s internal IT infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of July 28, human rights defenders identified at least 1,164 political prisoners, but the real number is considerably higher because many cases go undocumented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
