August 2, Pozirk<\/em><\/strong>. Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka is currently opposed to allowing Russian troops to pass through Belarus for a renewed attack on Ukraine, said Kyrylo Budanov, chief of Ukraine\u2019s Main Intelligence Directorate. He made the statement in an interview with Moseychuk+<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At the moment, he flatly refuses to agree to it and will not agree\u2014for now,” Budanov emphasized. “But in the long run, we all remember 2022 and what happened then. We must simply remain strong and be prepared for anything, so we won\u2019t be caught off guard. It all depends on us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russia used Belarus as a staging ground for its initial invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka regime provided Russian troops with access to Belarusian territory and infrastructure to prepare for the invasion. It also permitted Russian forces to launch missile strikes on Ukraine from Belarusian soil for several months. Belarusian hospitals treated wounded Russian soldiers, and, according to investigative journalists, hundreds of Belarusian enterprises are currently producing goods for the Russian military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the weeks leading up to the 2022 invasion, Russia deployed a large military contingent to Belarus under the pretext of a joint exercise involving Belarusian forces. The Russian troops did not leave after the drills but instead rolled into Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus is expected to host another large-scale joint exercise, Zapad<\/em>, in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
