August 3, <\/strong>Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> U\u0142adzis\u0142a\u016d Zavalniuk, former dean of the St. Simeon and Helena Church in Minsk, has taken to YouTube to preach the gospel, noting that he was pensioned off by the Belarusian government, not the pope a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minsk-Mahilo\u016d Archdiocese announced on July 26, 2024 that Zavalniuk asked for retirement at the age of 75 after serving at the parish for 30 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parishioners appealed to Iosif Stanie\u016dski, metropolitan of the Minsk-Mahilo\u016d Archdiocese, to reinstate him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government closed down the St. Simeon and Helena Church (Red Church) in Minsk in September 2022, citing fire safety concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chryscijanskaja Vizija reported at the time that the Zavalniuk\u2019s dismissal was the government\u2019s condition for reopening the church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
