August 4, Pozirk<\/em><\/strong>. The rise in investment lending and a slowdown in consumer lending in Belarus in June may be linked to measures introduced by the central bank to stimulate investment activity, said the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) in its weekly update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pace of growth in rubel-denominated loans accelerated to 2 percent month-on-month, up from 0.4 percent in May. This increase was driven primarily by corporate lending, which rose by 3.2 percent month-on-month, including a 4.7-percent rise in loans to state-owned enterprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, consumer lending growth slowed to 0.6 percent, compared to 1.2 percent in May. Growth in mortgage lending also decelerated to 0.9 percent in June, down from 1.1 percent the previous month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raman Ha\u0142o\u016d\u010danka, head of the National Bank of Belarus, told bankers on March 21 that the regulator would implement macroprudential measures aimed at boosting investment lending and cooling import-driven consumer demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
