August 7, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Warsaw will illuminate its landmarks in the colors of the Belarusian opposition flag on August 9, the fifth anniversary of Belarus\u2019 disputed presidential election, Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian opposition politician said the mayor of the Polish capital will express his solidarity and turn on white and red lighting on the Palace of Culture and Science and the Poniatowski Bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI highly appreciate this political gesture by the head of the Polish capital Warsaw, the Polish government as a whole and Polish society,\u201d \u0141atu\u0161ka said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland is considered a safe haven for Belarusians fleeing the regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, media reported that the number of Belarusian holders of Polish residence permits surged from 28,000 in August 2020 to more than 143,000 as of late February.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first half of 2025, Poland granted asylum to about 1,000 Belarusians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
