August 11, Pozirk. <\/em><\/strong>Poland has thwarted at least 20,009 irregular border crossings by third-country foreigners via Belarus since the start of 2025, according to Pozirk<\/em>‘s analysis of border guards’ data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attempts to cross irregularly into Poland dropped by 9.6 percent year on year, yet almost tripled in the Lithuanian direction to 989 incidents. Latvia reported 8,294 irregular crossings since January, more than double compared to the same period in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two months ago, Warsaw extended a border area entry ban at the shared border with Belarus by another 90 days, citing a significant decline in irregular crossings since its introduction one year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flow of people desperate to enter the European Union surged in spring 2021 after Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka, angered by EU sanctions, had indicated that Minsk would not prevent asylum seekers from Africa and Asia from using Belarus as a route to the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, \u0141uka\u0161enka claimed that foreigners were traveling to the EU because they were \u201cinvited there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus\u2019 western neighbors call the migration crisis a \u201chybrid attack\u201d orchestrated by Minsk and Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
