August 11, <\/strong>Pozirk.<\/strong> <\/em>Trade between Belarus and Russia’s Chelyabinsk province exceeded $0.5 billion in one year and could reach $1 billion in the next five years, Alaksadar \u0141uka\u0161enka has told the province\u2019s governor Aleksei Teksler at their meeting in Minsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Belarusian ruler welcomed the overall increase, yet noted declining sales of Belarusian heavy-duty trucks in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are extremely interested in this [cooperation] since we receive large quantities of resources, especially metals and other valuable materials from the Chelyabinsk province,” his press office quoted him as saying. “We are ready to move forward in this direction and work with you. Know that you have reliable friends here in Belarus, in the far west of the Fatherland.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur Fatherland, from Brest to Vladivostok, remains the same even though two states have emerged through no fault of ours,\u201d said \u0141uka\u0161enka, known for his Soviet nostalgia. \u201cWe still find common ground, cooperate and do it quite well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Russian governors regularly visit Belarus and receive top-level reception, unlike their Belarusian counterparts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
