August 12, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The BEROC think tank has presented a forecast saying that the Belarusian economy will slowly cool down in the medium term if there are no strong external shocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The think tank anticipates a prolonged period before the equilibrium is restored, since overheating in the second quarter of 2025 was close to peak levels, and generally soft economic policy will continue to support high domestic demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGDP growth is projected to be close to 2 percent in 2025, followed by a slowdown to 0-1.5 percent in 2026,\u201d BEROC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It added that inflation is moving toward the upper range of its forecast, 7\u20139 percent by the year’s end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf inflation approaches double-digit rates, it may trigger a response [from the government], such as tighter price controls that existed before slight easing in April 2025. If price controls are tightened, inflation will be close to the lower limit of the 7\u20139 percent range by the end of the year. However, the outcome will be an increase in the inflation overhang and a likely weakening of economic activity in 2026 . . . I do not see any prerequisites for inflation to be higher than 10 percent,\u201d BEROC expert Anatol Charyton\u010dyk said at the presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the context of inflation, BEROC observed that the overheated domestic demand and labor market have pushed up prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The think tank added that the consequences of the US sanctions policy for the Belarusian economy are highly uncertain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
