August 12, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> A total of 28.4 percent of the Belarusian urban dwellers who took part in the BEROC think tank\u2019s quarterly online survey reported a decrease in their income, research fellow Vijaleta Panasievi\u010d has told a briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Panasievi\u010d, more than half of the respondents, 54 percent, cited rising prices as the cause for the falling income. Furthermore, 21 percent pointed out a decline in orders\/clients, while 19 and 17 percent reported bonus or salary cuts, respectively. Fourteen percent referred to salary freezes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nine percent of those polled linked the decrease to foreign exchange rates and 8 percent, to a reduction in working hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of those who declared shrinking income, 40 percent said they cut vacation expenses, 33 percent saved on food, 27 percent missed scheduled payments, 21 percent scaled down their clothing purchases and 21 percent stopped saving. Fourteen percent postponed big purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to 21 percent of those polled, the country\u2019s economic situation has become \u201cmuch or somewhat better\u201d over the year. A quarter are optimistic about the future. However, 26 percent do not expect anything good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
