August 14, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Belarusians arrested during the Warsaw concert of Belarusian rapper Maks Kor\u017e may face reprisals if deported to their homeland, the Coordination Council\u2019s Youth Offensive faction stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe principle of non-refoulement (the inadmissibility of deporting to a country where there is a threat of persecution or torture) is the basis of the European system for protecting human rights and obliges authorities to refrain from actions that could lead to this outcome,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It acknowledges Poland\u2019s right to maintain public order and act according to its laws. However, it stresses that everyone must be equal before the law and that decisions and punishments must be proportionate to the level of guilt, without discrimination based on nationality or origin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are grateful to Poland for its solidarity and for accepting refugees. We call for these cases to be considered based on the law, facts and principles of justice, not emotions or anti-immigrant rhetoric,\u201d the faction said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a statement made by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on August 12, Poland has launched deportation procedures against 63 people, including six Belarusians, who disturbed the peace at Kor\u017e\u2019s recent concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey will have to leave the country, either voluntarily or by force, if they do not leave voluntarily,\u201d Tusk said, as quoted by Rzeczpospolita<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the premier, this concerns six Belarusian nationals and 57 Ukrainian nationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
