August 15, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> Pavie\u0142 \u0141atu\u0161ka, head of the National Anti-Crisis Management (NAM), has linked the telephone conversation between Donald Trump and Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka with the upcoming Russian-US negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In about an hour, the US president is expected to meet with Vladimir Putin to discuss peace in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have repeatedly predicted that \u0141uka\u0161enka and the Kremlin ruler are working actively to ensure that the ceasefire negotiations on Ukraine take place in Minsk, that there is Minsk III,\u201d \u0141atu\u0161ka told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The previous agreements that sought to end the Donbas war, Minsk I and Minsk II, were signed in 2014 and 2015, respectively. According to \u0141atu\u0161ka, \u0141uka\u0161enka would benefit from hosting Minsk III talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFirst, he is trying to restore his agency and gain recognition. Second, he will try to avoid responsibility for the crimes of aggression, for the war crimes related to the displacement of Ukrainian children from the occupied territories and for the crimes against humanity facing the Belarusian people,\u201d the opposition politician said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0141atu\u0161ka said that in January, the Belarusian opposition had conveyed its position to the US. \u201cIf the question of Minsk talks arises, we have clear and precise conditions. The first condition is the end of all repressions in Belarus. The second one is the release of all 1,300 political prisoners and their full amnesty. And the third one is the decriminalization of Belarus\u2019 socio-political life,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minsk and Washington announced the \u0141uka\u0161enka-Trump phone call earlier today. Trump called the Belarusian strongman a \u201chighly respected president\u201d and looked forward to meeting with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Trump, the purpose of the call was to thank \u0141uka\u0161enka for freeing 16 prisoners recently. \u201cWe are also discussing the release of 1,300 additional prisoners. Our conversation was a very good one. We discussed many topics, including President Putin\u2019s visit to Alaska,\u201d the US president said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a moral standpoint, the pro-democracy forces cannot welcome \u201cthe fact that the US president is addressing \u0141uka\u0161enka as president,\u201d \u0141atu\u0161ka noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
