August 18, Pozirk.<\/em> <\/strong>The Minsk City Court sentenced Ja\u016dhien Kra\u015bnianski from Minsk to seven and a half years in prison on August 8 for conducting an unauthorized survey on Covid-19 pandemic, the Viasna Human Rights Center reports.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man was also fined 25,000 rubels (some $8,400) after the court found him guilty on charges of treason and tax evasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities did not disclose the verdicts against two women accused in the same case. They interviewed Belarusians on \u201csupposed preference for the country\u2019s development through its integration with the European Union,\u201d investigators said earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorities banned unauthorized surveys in 2020 after a number of polls showed low voter support for Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
