August 18, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Belarusian Council of Ministers has prepared a decree to transfer the regulation of tourism from the Ministry of Sports and Tourism to the National Tourism Agency, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka\u2019s office reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea is to place the agency under the government\u2019s direct control, merging it with the ministry\u2019s tourism department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis industry cannot be revived without the participation of private business. We need to work together to identify and stimulate growth areas,\u201d First Deputy Prime Minister Mika\u0142aj Snapko\u016d said, presenting the decree at today\u2019s meeting between \u0141uka\u0161enka and the Council of Ministers leadership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is necessary to concentrate all management resources in a single decision-making center to coordinate dozens of industries, ensure export growth and stimulate investment in this sphere.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Snapko\u016d, the industry employs 230,000 people, and tourism accounts for about 2 percent of GDP, which \u201cdoes not correspond to its potential and capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snapko\u016d said the quality of the tourist flow was unfavorable. \u201cThe number of outbound tours is almost twice the number of inbound tours to Belarus. The amount of money taken out by Belarusian tourists is 12 times greater than the amount brought in by foreign tourists,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government\u2019s goal is to reverse the trend and keep more foreign currency in the country, the deputy premier said. He urged officials to extend tourists\u2019 stays and boost their spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
