August 19, Pozirk.<\/em><\/strong> The queue of Poland-bound buses has reached 140 vehicles this morning at the Brest-Terespol border crossing handling all passenger traffic between Belarus and Poland, the State Border Committee reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The queue tripled in just one week. A total of 4,600 passenger cars are also waiting to be processed on the Belarusian side of the border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Border congestion has persisted since August 15, with Belarusian officials routinely blaming Polish counterparts for delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belarus-registered passenger cars are banned from entering the Baltic states. Belarusians wishing to travel to the European Union by car can do so only via Brest-Terespol following the closure of the checkpoint in Bobrowniki more than two years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Warsaw linked the latter\u2019s reopening to the release of Polish minority activist Andrzej Poczobut, imprisoned for eight years in Belarus in a criminal case widely seen as politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
