August 19, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The UN Human Rights Committee has commenced proceedings on a complaint filed against Georgia by Raman Ki\u015blak, an exiled Belarusian human rights activist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 11, Ki\u015blak received a final asylum denial, having exhausted all avenues in recent years. He was supposed to leave Georgia within 30 days but challenged the decision instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diplomats demanded that Ki\u015blak not be deported to his country of origin. Pozirk <\/em>has a copy of the notice of registration and temporary protection measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ki\u015blak said the committee used diplomatic channels to inform Georgia of registering the complaint. \u201cTbilisi must provide all information and commentary regarding the admissibility and substance of the notice no later than February 19, 2026. Six months are given,\u201d the activist told Pozirk<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the procedure obliges the state party to undertake not to deport him to Belarus until the committee has considered the complaint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A conclusion may be reached in two to five years, he forecasted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe final decision will be published, but the procedure is confidential and the committee does not disclose it,\u201d Ki\u015blak said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, he could stay in Georgia. \u201cAs Georgian lawyers explained to me, my asylum seeker status has expired, and my further status will be \u2018in deportation.\u2019 There will be a deportation case, suspended in line with the rules of procedure. I will be issued a temporary identity card with a new status,\u201d the activist said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
