August 20, Pozirk<\/em>. <\/strong>Lithuania plans to strengthen border security ahead of the Belarusian-Russian Zapad-2025 drill scheduled for September 12-16 in Belarus, Rustamas Liubajevas, in charge of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, has told LRT<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lithuanian border guards are ready to respond to any provocations at the border, lrytas.lt<\/em> cited the official as saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late May, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Chrenin announced that Zapad-2025 would be scaled down and relocated farther from the borders. Later, Alaksandar \u0141uka\u0161enka said the move was designed to reduce tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In February 2022, Moscow used a similar exercise in Belarus as a cover for a troop buildup ahead of its invasion of Kyiv. Ukrainian intelligence and border forces plan to closely monitor troop movements during the upcoming drill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming drill would involve training in planning the use of nuclear weapons and Russia\u2019s Oreshnik hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missiles, Minsk announced earlier this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
