August 20, Pozirk<\/em>.<\/strong> The Lithuanian customs service has reported the discovery of two batches of Belarusian cigarettes being smuggled through Vilnius Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cargo arrived on August 4 and 7 from the United Arab Emirates and Turkey. Customs officers discovered the cigarettes while checking boxes that were supposed to contain air filters for a Vilnius company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon opening the boxes, they found that most contained M1 Super Slims cigarettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to preliminary data, officers seized 522,000 packs of cigarettes without excise stamps. The contraband\u2019s value is estimated at \u20ac2.5 million. Pre-trial investigations are underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the customs service, it was the second large cargo of contraband cigarettes from the UAE seized in Lithuania this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 1, more than 500,000 packs of illegal cigarettes worth \u20ac2.3 million were found during an inspection of a heavy-duty truck near Kaunas. The cigarettes were disguised as a shipment of paper towels, supposedly intended for Western Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lithuanian customs service previously reported that, in the first half of the year, 41 percent of cigarette contraband was intercepted at the Belarusian border, down from 49 percent y\/y.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first half of 2025, Lithuania reportedly detained and confiscated more than 805,000 packs of contraband cigarettes delivered from Belarus by air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
